Bjoerndalen Extends Contract with Madshus Beyond 2014 Olympics
“I’m excited to renew and extend my contract with Madshus,” Bjoerndalen says after closing the deal on Friday, May 11, 2012.
Bjoerndalen is committed to pursue his career at least through the 2014 Olympics in Sotchi (RUS). The 2014 Winter Games will be his sixth Olympics, and if he wins a medal in Sotchi, he will be the oldest Olympic champion to date. Bjoerndalen will be 40 years old in 2014. He is also aiming for his 100th World Cup victory, which will make him the most winning biathlete ever. In his pursuit, Bjoerndalen relies on Madshus as his equipment sponsor.
“I feel that I increase my chances to attain those goals by competing on Madshus equipment,” Bjoerndalen says, explaining that he is confident Madshus is the perfect partner. “The engineers and staff members are incredibly receptive and performance-oriented, and have an attention to detail that’s out of this world. They listen to my input and bend over backwards to help me succeed,” Bjoerndalen says.
The contract also extends beyond Bjoerndalen’s career as a professional biathlete. Upon retiring from biathlon, Bjoerndalen will become a part of the research and development team at Madshus, contributing to innovate, refine and test Madshus products.
“There is such an incredible drive and energy in the innovation at Madshus. I am proud to be a part of that team and help develop products that define the industry and determine the gold standards,” Bjoerndalen says.
Ole Einar Bjoerndalen has won six Olympic Gold medals. In 2002, he became the first biathlete ever to win all four events at a single Olympic Games: the sprint, the pursuit, the individual and the relay events. He has 18 World Championship gold medals, 11 silver medals and nine bronze medals. And he has won the overall World Cup six times.
At Madshus, we are both proud and excited to continue our partnership with one of the most talented and dedicated athletes in the world. We believe Bjoerndalens contributions and input will be invaluable in our commitment to develop the best and most innovative Nordic equipment on the market.
